Espresso for Hue App Reviews

Almost...

I love Espresso — I use it not only daily, but throughout the day for the controls of my primary living and working areas. I’d also love to give it a 5 — but as a result of the scenes immediately becoming “static” unless the app is running and open, I’ve had to resort to leaving an old iPhone 4 laying around like a Hue remote. I find that actually a rather useful solution for several other reasons, but… background please? Even before Goldee was out of commission, I preferred the more subtle scenes in Espresso. However, Goldee did handle background dynamic scenes with aplomb. The last update was fabulous as well — and I’ll happily change my rating to a five with background execution available.

Much improved!

Thanks to the great update, this app is now easily my favorite of all hue options. Youd think itd be easy to design something worth having, but all the hue-related junk in the App Store would suggest otherwise. The only thing holding this back from 5 stars is the lack of backgrounding (which some other apps do have). Get that sorted and thisd be just shy of perfect. EDIT: now 5 stars!

Background mode May have some issues

Background mode seems to work but every once in a while it just wont and Im not exactly sure whats causing it

One of the best hue apps

Perfectly suited to set the mood just right. It has a simply interface with the perfect amount of individualization of each scene. I hope more pictures keep getting added. I would like to see more blues in the scenes and more scenes of reds

Does nothing.

This app does not animate my lights. The scenes initially change the lamps but nothing else. Adjusting between tranquil and lively has no effect.

Great app

As above, works in the background and has a lot of scenes. It could however be further improved if it had a sleep timer, maybe an alarm as well like the original hue app. Otherwise solid app.

Update to review at bottom...

I like this app a lot. It has a large number of scenes. However, many of the scenes are similar. I use to have the Goldee app, but they disappeared. That app had some scenes that were warmer/darker that simulated dusk/city at night lights. It would be nice to have some of those type scenes on this app. It would be nice if this app had a sleep timer Otherwise, this is a great app. I had a problem with my bulbs not working properly. I contacted support, and they promptly helped me. Great support! I appreciate it.

A Great Hue App

Espresso is the only Hue app I use in addition to the Philips Hue app. There are both warm and cool scenes that are very tasteful and practical for everyday use. The app has fewer bugs than the Philips app The developer has done a nice job here.

Great for Multiple Rooms

Some of the other apps I liked were clumsy to use for multiple rooms, now that Ive added more lights to my Hue setup. Espresso is so easy to use for multiple rooms, easy to dim, change speed and intensity of colors, its just perfect. I hope you will keep adding some more scenes, although the collection is already very nice and useable.

Would Be Great If It Worked

On my iPad 3 the lights arent animated even at full "lively" mode. They just go into their initial state and stay that way. Maybe this only works on an iPhone? (Yes the app has permission to use the Mic.) I wished this app was the answer to Goldee but sadly it is not. The wait continues...

The change of this new version is terrible.

I liked the old version; although it was somewhat difficult to make colors ‘flow,’ its color setting of each scene was really cool. But, the new version installed today is terrible: Why does every scene has blues? I don’t hate blue, but the fact that every scene has blues, even the one that is supposed to have all reds, is really really terrible! Please fix!

Great new interface, but not functioning correctly.

Love the new interface. Very smooth animations and I like the layout. Unfortunately, the app only cycles my lights through blue and white.

Broken

Nice update to the interface. Quick fix for the blue lights problem. Minor issue: - The play button at the bottom is a little ambiguous.

Nice themes

Really great daylight themes! I love the personality in the themes. Awesome update!

my favorite Hue app

Thanks!

Very nice, however....

App does just what I want it to do except for not playing nice with my music. Lights go into static mode if I play music to my Bluetooth speaker or conversely, turns music off if I play the lights...

Beautiful.

I dont like the UI update. Its all blue and detracts from the lovely photos and flavor of the individual scenes. Still a great app though. And yes, it does work in the background. There are some lovely new scenes since the last time I updated the app (in July)! If you disagree with me about the Blue UI update your review ;) I noticed there are no reviews for this version. Beautiful scenes and a variety of different effects. Lots to choose from. The UI is beautiful - a lot of Hue apps feel, to be honest, kind of thrown together. Not Espresso. This app is beautiful and easy to use - the kind of UI you *should* get if you spent $200+ on a lighting system. Background mode works flawlessly. If the app can add scheduling - ability to trigger different scenes (with individually specified brightness, intensity, and activity level) at different times - then it will be Perfect and I will run no other Hue app. Five stars even without this feature though - thats how well it does the things it already can do.

Great app for Hue!

Ive tried many, way to many to list, and none have really done what I want simply, and easily. This app is beautiful, simple, and most importantly works very well. If you want a great app to EASILY give you beautiful flowing color changing effects for your lights, this is it! A few suggestions: -Would love to be able to apply different scenes to different groups of lights at the same time. -Would love a custom "make your own" option. -an option to "favorite" 3 or 4 scenes for quick access. -timers and/or schedules would be very useful. Again, great app -thank you!

elegant app

Its a pretty simple app. It lets you create some rooms so you can group your lets and then youre off. There are a ton of scenses to choose from (all included). They are dynamic so they change and you can adjust some basic settings like brightness, etc. Its a simple app that is just very nice and really shows off your Hue bulbs and lightstrips.

Great, Simple Hue App

My review is similar to others. Ive tried and paid for way too many Hue apps, and this is one of the few I will be using for a long time. Why? One word, Simplicity. so many apps have way too many options, and it becomes a nightmare to setup and find what you want, easily. They are all fun at the beginning, but after a while you just want to set all the lights to a certain theme, forget it, and get on with things.
